I put about 500 miles on my Speedgoat 2s. It was a wonderful mix of plush cushion and traction that made it an ideal shoe for long distances. The shoes finally died about January of this year.
(Melissa and I rocking Speedgoat V2s and enjoying the Hoka goodness).
Then I put myself in a pair of the EVO Mafates. I love that shoe and still run in it regularly. It has an upper that drains well and holds my foot in place quite well for super technical terrain.
(I REALLY REALLY LOVE HOW WELL THESE SHOES PERFORM ON TECHNICAL TERRAIN).
I always thought to myself “I wish there was a mix of the Speedgoat and the EVO Mafate.”
Well it’s here. The EVO Speedgoat.
GAZE UPON ITS UTTER BEAUTY! IMAGINE YOUR FEET IN BLISS MOST NIRVANIC WHILE CRUSHING THE COMPETITION!!!
All of the consistent traction-y goodness of the Speedgoats 2 and 3, with the Kevlar reinforced, lightweight amazing-ness of the EVO Mafate. This is the shoe that Hoka athletes have been training in for months. This is the shoe in which Jim Walmsley broke the Western States course record. And it’s the shoe in which I will be plodding along at 12 minute pace on my long distance races. I may not have the raw athleticism of Jim Walmsley, or the talent and dedication of Jared Hazen, but gosh darn it I’m gonna run and race their shoe!
